WHOI Archives Finding Aids

The role of the Data Library and Archives (DLA) is to collect, preserve, and manage records related to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) that have continuing administrative, historical, or scientific research value. Among these records are WHOI scientists' personal papers, which relate to the individual's professional, civic, business, religious, political, and social activities. The DLA currently has over 75 of these manuscript collections, which are listed in this database. A link to an online finding aid is available for those collections that have been processed. To access the WHOI Archives, please send a written request to the Archivist at archives@whoi.edu specifying your research interests and goals. Please include possible dates for your visit. We will respond in writing with an outline of costs.
William "Bill" Dunkle (pictured above) began his employment at WHOI as a draftsman in 1953. He worked for many years in the Geology & Geophysics Department. Later in his career he managed the Data Library and Archives, retiring in 1994.
