He is a Massachusetts native (born in Quincy), was brought up in Boston and has both undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology and biology from Boston University. Frank has had a varied career, including a stint in the U.S. Army, 36 years teaching science in high school and college, and even a year as a professional soccer player. His interests include scuba diving, sky diving, mountain climbing, kayaking and bicycle touring. His enthusiasm for and interest in the work of his subjects is reflected in the quality of his oral histories.
